Frequently asked questions
Here are a few questions and answers that may be helpful for you. If you have any further questions that aren't on this list, please feel free to reach out.
I've never had a photoshoot done before - do I need to have any experience?
Nope - no experience needed at all! 90% of my clients are experiencing their first photoshoot with me. Part of your investment with me is that I spend time getting to know you and understand what you'd like out of the photoshoot. It's also a chance for you to get to know me a bit too, so that you can feel comfortable and actually enjoy your session!
I'm feeling super nervous for my shoot. What should I do?
I know it's easier said than done for me to just tell you 'you'll be fine, there's nothing to worry about'. Even though this is completely true, it may take some convincing on your part which I totally get. What I hope for my clients is that when they talk to me for the first time, they quickly learn that I'm an easy-going, non-judgemental person who just wants to help them feel wonderful about themselves.
Can you travel for shoots?
Totally! Adventuring and photography are two of my fave things in life, so combining them is something I'm always up for. Flick me a message and let me know what you're looking for, and then hopefully we can sort something out.
What are your payment options?
In order to secure your photoshoot date, I require a 20% non-refundable deposit fee. The remaining fee will be due within 7 days following your photoshoot (unless specified otherwise). If weather doesn't permit shooting on our booked date, the deposit is transferable to another date of our choosing.
What should I wear for my shoot?
Wear something that you're comfortable in. There's nothing worse than trying to feel relaxed and good about yourself in front of the camera if you're battling your own clothing! If you require any advice as to what outfits would be best for your shoot, especially if it involves your business branding, I'm more than happy to help!
How will we receive our images following the shoot?
I will send your images to you via a private online gallery called 'Pixieset'. This gallery is passcode-protected, and you will have the option to download your images in both web and print resolution. This gallery will remain online for 30 days following your shoot, and it is your responsibility to download the files to your own device(s) before those 30 days are up. I suggest always keeping two back-ups of your special images. For me personally, I use Google Drive and have an external hard drive, too.
Do you have a studio and props for a shoot?
No I don't have a studio. My style has always lended itself more towards using natural light and settings. However, I am always open to hiring out a space and props if need be!
Should I think of my own shot list?
You are SO welcome to come up with your own ideas, because I'm all for working together on creative direction for your shoot. However, if this is something you want me to take the lead on, I'm more than happy to do that too. I often use a shared Pinterest board for creative direction planning.
Why should I invest in getting photos taken?
This is absolutely a personal choice, and I understand that the financial side of things can be a barrier for wanting to get professional images taken. However, all I can say is that when you invest in me, you're investing in someone who genuinely cares about giving you a great experience. Also, if you're a business owner, professional imagery can really add credibility to your brand image. If you're looking for snaps from a special event to treasure forever, I'm someone who sees magical little moments that perhaps aren't always visible to other people. My perspective is my own, and if you like what you see, then we're a good fit!
Do I get copyright of my images?
For you (the Client):
Once you receive the photos, you’re free to use them however you like! This includes using the images on your website, social media, marketing materials, ads, and anything else for your business. You can also make edits or crops to the photos as needed. This license is permanent and non-exclusive, meaning you have full permission to use them without any time limit.
For me (the Photographer)
I keep the copyright to the images, which means I have the right to use them in my portfolio, website, social media, and other promotional materials to showcase my work. I may use the photos to promote my business unless you request otherwise in writing.
What You Can't Do:
You’re welcome to use the photos for your business, but you cannot sell or license the images to third parties without my permission. Please don’t use the images in a way that would hurt my business’s reputation or be illegal.
Do I have to pay for my images separately on top of my session fee?
I work with a package approach, meaning that the quote I give you includes both the session fee and an agreed number of high resolution images.
